TheWelsh1000walk is an event with community at its heart. With walks all over Wales, we hope to encourage you to take part on Saturday 28thApril 2018. Using the national coastal paths, this annual event will raise awareness and funds for mental health charities. Now in its third year, the 2018 event will be in aid of Mind. Our aim is to highlight, inspire and raise funds in the campaign for better mental health services. 1 in 4 people will suffer a mental health issue every year.
‘ It was a sunny November day in 2001 when I realised. I never got on the bus that day, instead I turned around and walked straight to the doctor’s surgery. For well over 18 months I had been battling with depression. Why? No idea. I had a successful career, no money worries, great friends, great social live and lived many of my dreams by travelling the world. Opening up and admitting I had a fundamental mental health issue was one of the toughest challenges of my life. For many years I searched for the answer, consumed by seeking reasons of how this could happen to me. The truth is much more simple…it can happen to all of us. 16 years later, I continue to travel the world, have written 2 books and my zest for life is undimmed. I still live with depression and will probably for the rest of my live. The difference now, is I don’t get so fixated on… why me’?

Each year, this major event will choose a mental health related charity to support. Every year the aim will be the same, to destigmatize mental health issues and increase awareness throughout the British Isles.
A selection of 71 walks will take place on Saturday 28th April 2018. The walks will follow the inspiring Welsh coastal path including Anglesey. In addition, the historic Offa’s Dyke trail will be used that create walks all over Wales. Each of the walks will have a maximum of 12 participants and be guided by a volunteer leader with knowledge of the route. For more information on each walk and how to sign up, please go to the dedicated Walks page. Once you have read and digested this, choose your route, fill in the Registration Form and become part of this unique event.
