Walks

How the walks are graded: All the walks have been assigned estimated timeframes based on the ‘Naismith’s Rule’  hiking formula and graded as outlined below. This information is for indicative purposes only. All walks will have a leader. We have allowed a total time of 1hour 30 minutes for rest breaks and lunch.

Easy/Green = 1 walks for anyone who does not have a mobility difficulty, a specific health problem or is seriously unfit. Leader/Participant is able to walk at 2.5 miles per hour.

Moderate/Blue = 2 walks for hikers  with a good level of fitness and at least a little country walking experience. May include unsurfaced rural and steep paths. Leaders/Participant is able to walk at 2.5 miles per hour.

Challenging/Red =3
walks for experienced hikers with excellent level of fitness. May include some steep paths and open country, and may be at a brisk pace. Leader/Participant is able to walk at 3 miles per hour.

Strenuous/Purple = 4 walks for experienced, determined  hikers, with excellent level of  fitness. May include hills and rough country, and may be at a brisk pace. Leader/Participant is able to walk at 3 miles per hour

Super Strenuous/Black = 5 walks for specialist long distance hikers. Supreme level of fitness. May include hills and rough country. Able to walk at 4 miles per hour.
